a small detail
from the byward market
caught my eye today
tin house courtyard
a small quiet enclave
in a busy quarter

jour 83::365 (sooc week #1)
i'm challenging myself
to a week of
straight out of camera shots
a.k.a. "sooc"
mostly out of necessity
a painful condition in my right shoulder
is making it more difficult
to maneouver the mouse
during post-processing of my images
so i'll give my arm a bit of rest
and practice acceptance of imperfection
at the same time

i can hardly believe
that i am now part of
this historic road race
- the oldest in north america
on this
the 117th running of the race
i placed 5240th out of 5878 runners
and as i look back on the experience
of running farther than i've ever run before
i know that
what i lack in speed
i make up in heart
jour 81::365
once again
i am drawn
to lines and patterns
here, the empty seats of copps coliseum
await tomorrow's excitement
of the "around the bay road race" finishers
i plan to be one of them

if i lie down for a nap
at 6pm
and don't get up
until 6:30am...
does that still qualify
as a nap?
as i take this day
to let my body recover
from whatever it is fighting
i turn to the little things
that bring me joy
like these vintage fabric-covered pins
on my messenger bag
jour 77:365
while waiting
for an appointment
i was drawn
into this moment
of midday
meditation
across the way

a company of dancer-illusionists
that left me
speechless
it was like watching
a painting
unfold upon a canvas
while the artist's hand
remained unseen
see for yourself

"In the event of the insufficiency
of everything attainable,
we come to understand that here,
in this life,
all symphonies remain unfinished."
- karl rahner
to be human
is to be in a constant state
of sacred restlessness,
forever seeking
union with the divine

i rose from my meditation
and the sun was pouring
into the room
my childhood doll
suzy
caught my eye
as she peeked out
from inside the closet
jour 72::365
every once in a while
i see something
on the street
that makes me go:
huh?!
i can't help but wonder
about the life
that walked a mile
in those shoes

i wasn't ten steps out my front door
when i stopped in my (icy) tracks
literally
stopped
and looked down
while i lay sleeping
my driveway
a.k.a. "the lake"
had transformed
into a crystal tableau

a sunny view
of historical lowertown
only a few minutes from
my office building
yet
too often forgotten
as a place to roam
jour 68::365
when the hours of the day
run out
and the shutter has not yet
clicked
i turn to my faithful friends
to offer up
a smile

a landing pad
for the fingers
determined to reach out
into the darkness

i am a hat girl
rarely venturing outside
without my
chapeau
i was pleased to discover
a delightful miliner's shop
in the market today
and, not surprisingly,
walked away with a new
jaunty cap

There is something innate
to the human soul that knows that,
every so often,
one must make a journey of descent,
be smudged,
lose one's luster,
and wait
while the ashes do their work.
All ancient traditions abound
with stories
of having to sit in the ashes
before one can be transformed.

the mid-morning sun
at play
with my wooden bistro table chair
shadows & light
on my fully lived-on

on your mark
get set...
a snowy, slushy day
sent me to the dry comfort
of the indoor track
for today's long run
round 'n round
50 times
what a way to spend
the morning

i fed my love of dance tonite
and thoroughly enjoyed
the feast
nyc's cedar lake contemporary ballet company
performing Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui's Orbo Novo
but i suppose you could have
figured that much out
by the poster in my photo

two little love birds
resting on a window sill
in our upstairs hallway
i hope i never

or what they represent
for granted

i rarely reach
for the f-bomb
but today was one of those days
where it seemed particularly
appropriate
early stages of frozen shoulder
a.k.a. adhesive capsulitis
combined with a massage therapist
who is fearless
and digs deep
made for a very uncomfortable
half-hour

february
bids us adieu
with a ferocious
